Shiretoko

Shiretoko Peninsula is in the northeastern part of the island of Hokkaidō by the Okhotsk Sea. On the 14th of July, 2005, it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site (natural heritage). Most of the peninsula is part of Shiretoko National Park. Its name comes from the Ainu language and means “end of the earth” or “place where the earth protrudes”.
