  • In the evening, stroll around the lively Dotonbori district, near Namba Station: you will find many mouth-watering restaurants as well as colourful boutiques like the Sanrio Store, which is entirely devoted to Hello Kitty. If you have daughters, they will undoubtedly fall in love with this shop!

  • After enjoying a delicious breakfast, you will leave Osaka in a private car with your English-speaking guide and drive to the town of Himeji, which is especially famous for being the home of the White Heron Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Indeed, this impressive feudal castle is one of the oldest medieval Japanese structures still standing and one of only three remaining Japanese castles to be made of wood. As you climb up to the different floors, you will start to get a clear picture of the structure of a Japanese castle. Furthermore, you will have an amazing view of the steep roofs of the castle and of the town of Himeji! Your children will be awed by this immersion in the world of shoguns and samurai.
  • After visiting the castle, stroll around the charming Japanese garden Kokuen which boasts a lovely landscape with small ponds that are home to the much-loved Japanese carps and are crossed by small stone bridges
  • Then, take the famous Shinkansen bullet train to the city of Hiroshima. With your guide, you will walk around the Peace Park and see the various memorial monuments, including the Atomic Bomb Dome, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will also visit the very educational Peace Museum.
  • You will spend the night on the sacred island of Miyajima, which is a thirty-minute drive followed by a ten-minute ferry ride from Hiroshima.

  • Spend a pleasant, relaxing day in Miyajima. This lush island houses one of the most famous treasures of Japan: the famous floating Torii, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the amazing bright-red shrine of Itsukushima, built on a pier-like structure over the bay, to which the torii is the entrance. You will spend the whole day on the island, which houses many other wonders: follow small paths through the forest until you reach clear streams into which you can dip your feet
  • Make the most of the island’s famous natural beauty: not only will you see deer roaming freely, you will probably also notice quite a few monkeys! To admire the beautiful panorama, take the ropeway to the top of Mount Misen. From there, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the lovely scenery spread out before your eyes!
  • As a fit end to this lovely day, you will spend the night in a beautiful ryokan, a traditional Japanese guesthouse, where you can enjoy Japanese hot baths! The perfect way to relax after a day of sightseeing.

  • This morning, you will get back onto the Shinkansen bullet train, with your guide, to go to Kyoto, the former capital of Japan .
  • Discover the most beautiful temples of Kyoto that all boast amazing gardens: the Golden Pavilion, which seems to float on a never-ending lake, Ryoan-ji, which is famous for its dry garden but also houses a lovely lily pond and Ninna-ji with its various wooden buildings.
  • Towards the town centre, visit Nijo Castle, and admire its beautiful architecture as well as its gardens in which you will find teahouses where you can discover the rituals of the Japanese tea ceremony.
  • In the evening, stroll around the narrow alleyways of Gion, the historical district of Kyoto, where you can still find traditional wooden teahouses where the Geisha work.

    • Temples and shrines — If you like Japanese religious art, visit Ginkaku-ji, the Silver Pavilion and its lovely moss garden. Then stroll along the Philosopher’s Walk alongside a small canal. In the town centre, admire the amazing Heian Jingu shrine . Do some shopping at the Kyoto Handicraft Center, which sells local crafts such as yukata or prints. At sunset, visit the beautiful temple of Kiyomizu-dera, perched on a cliff and proudly balanced on impressive wooden stilts.
    • Nature hike — If you would prefer to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the countryside around Kyoto, visit the Arashiyama district where you can walk around the lovely Sagano Bamboo Forest. Admire Togetsukyo bridge as it elegantly sits astride the Oi River. Finally, you will visit the beautiful temple of Tenryu-ji a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which boasts an amazing Soseki-style garden that is a wonderful place for a stroll.
    • Toei Movie Land — If your children are becoming bored of temples and shrines, visit Toei Movie Land where you can discover traditional Japanese film sets, from samurais to ninjas! A very educational trip into the world of period cinema that your children will love!

  • Admire an incredible view of Tokyo as you take a cruise on the Sumida River all the way to Senso-ji Temple in the working-class district of Asakusa.

  • Stroll around the relaxing greenery of Yoyogi Park, a wooded haven of tranquillity within the city, which houses Meiji Jingu shrine.
  • Then, wander along the colourful streets of Harajuku, the fashion district for young people and the perfect place for a shopping spree!
  • Not far from there, you will walk down Omotesando Avenue, Tokyo’s Champs-Elysees where you will find many fashion and luxury boutiques, but also a shop that your children will love — Kiddy Land — where they can find all sorts of toys featuring their favourite characters from Hello Kitty to Totoro or Snoopy and Pikachu.
  • As the day comes to an end, explore the famous Shibuya district, renowned for having the largest intersection in the world and for its thousands of blinking neon lights and giant TV screens that are never turned off! We recommend you have dinner in one of the many restaurants in this area: there is something for everyone!

    • Are you coming to Japan in winter?
      Bring warm clothes as the winter temperatures in Tokyo are similar to those in Paris.
      If you are travelling to the north of Japan in winter, to the west coast or to the Japanese Alps, bring clothes adapted to extreme temperatures since cold winds from Siberia often blow over Japan!
      A real Northern experience!
    • Are you going to Japan in summer?
      Please note that the weather will be very hot and humid! Pack your summer clothes but do not forget to bring an umbrella, especially in June and September, as well as warmer clothes for the cool evenings or for the north of Japan. Do not forget your sunglasses, hats and swimming costumes!
    • Are you going to Japan during the intermediary seasons: spring and autumn?
      Do not hesitate to bring summer clothes (shorts, swimming costumes, T-shirts, light shoes) as well as winter clothes (umbrella, jeans, jumpers, jackets and closed shoes) as the temperatures are mild in the south of Japan but cooler in Tokyo and the north.
    • Are you stopping off in Asia on the way there or on the way back?
