Jour 1 - London / Tokyo Scheduled flight to Tokyo, possibility of a stopover in an Asian city
- Leave from London to Tokyo Narita International Airport on a scheduled flight in economy class.
- Night and meal on board.
- Do not forget that it is entirely possible to stopover in Asia, Europe or the Middle-East for one or more nights to spice things up, relax and discover a new destination, on the way there or on the way back.
- Depending on your preferences, choose from our partner airlines:

Jour 2 – Tokyo Discover the city, Shibuya and Harajuku districts and Yoyogi Park
- Arrive at Narita International Airport.
- You will be greeted by an English-speaking assistant who will explain how your JR Pass works. Once you have settled into your hotel in the centre of the city and have had some time to relax, head out for a first glimpse of Tokyo.
- Start by marvelling at the bustling heart of Tokyo: Shibuya district, famous for having the biggest intersection in the world! You will be stunned by the giant TV screens and charmed by the little pedestrian streets where you will find many boutiques selling fashionable clothes for young people!
- Continue towards Harajuku, the fashionable youth district: do not miss Takeshita-Dori pedestrian street, which you will love if you enjoy alternative, colourful fashion!
- Finally, if you are looking for a haven of tranquillity in this urban jungle, walk around Yoyogi Park, the largest park in Tokyo. This forest inside the city contains Meiji-jingu shrine, one of the most sacred places in Tokyo.
- Lunch and dinner at your leisure.
- Spend the night in the 3* Remm Hibiya Hotel in Tokyo (or similar).
Jour 3 – Tokyo Ueno Park and Zoo, Akhibahara, Odaiba and Asakusa districts
- After having visited bustling Tokyo the previous evening, make the most of today to soak up the atmosphere of this unique city, between green spaces and skyscrapers.
- Start the day by visiting the Buddhist temple of Senso-ji and the lively Asakusadistrict, which is lined with tiny shops selling traditional wares and colourful sweets.
- Continue your visit withUeno Park, which is very popular with Tokyoites on the weekend when they like to unwind on the banks of the Lake, which are covered with lovely water lilies.
- The children will enjoy visiting Ueno Zoo, the oldest and most famous zoo in Japan, which houses over 450 different species.
- If you love computers and gadgets, do not miss Akibahara, also known as Electric Town, where you will find state-of-the-art electronics as well as large manga stores where you can buy figurines and other merchandise.
- If you wish to relax, sit down in a Maid cafe where a charming hostess dressed up as a manga character will welcome you to the cafe’s futuristic atmosphere.
- In the evening, go to the artificial island of Odaiba and enjoy a beautiful view of the night-lights of Tokyo.
- Try the Monogatari Onsen, hot baths located on the artificial island of Odaiba.
- For dinner, choose a restaurant overlooking Tokyo Bay, studded with islands and shining brightly, and the Rainbow Bridge.
- Lunch and dinner at your leisure.
- Spend the night in the 3* Remm Hibiya Hotel in Tokyo (or similar).
Jour 4 – Kamakura / Tokyo / Shikinejima Island Engaku-ji temple, Hachiman-gu shrine and Shikinejima
- Take the train to discover Kamakura, a small seaside town south of Tokyo. The former capital of the Shogun from 1185 to 1333 is far from the bustling capital.
- Walk around this small seaside town and enjoy its wonderful temples and shrines and hushed atmosphere.
- Engaku-ji is one of the most famous Zen Buddhist temples in Japan. It was built in 1282 but now only 17 of the 40 original buildings remain.
- You can also visit Hachiman-gu shrine . Originally built by the water, this temple, which dates back to 1063, was moved to its current location in 1191. This shrine is consecrated to Hachiman, the God of War, and is the most important Shinto shrine in Japan.
- Admire the Daibutsu, a giant bronze statue of Buddha, which was cast and sculpted in 1252. It is 13 metres high and the second largest Buddha in Japan after the one in Nara. The Buddha is sitting in the lotus position and has been meditating under the stars for over 700 years.
- In the evening, you will return to Tokyo to catch the 10 p.m. ferry to the small island of Shikinejima, south of the capital, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
- You will spend the night in a Deluxe Double Cabin on the ferry.
- Lunch and dinner at your leisure.
- Spend the night on the Salvia or Camelia Ferry connecting Tokyo and the Izu islands (or similar).
Jour 5 – Shikinejima Island Stroll around the island and optional activities
- A small island in Izu National Park, Shikinejima is off the coast of the Izu Peninsula, in the Pacific Ocean. Discover its wild landscapes and go on some amazing nature hikes, all in one day.
- You can relax in its small coves and beaches. The island also has two natural hot springs that you can enjoy!
- Optional activities in Shikinejima
- Snorkelling with masks and tubas: 6 Euros (about 5 GBP)
- Sea fishing from a boat: 96 Euros (about 80 GBP)
- Hook and line fishing: 22 Euros
- Lunch and dinner in your ryokan.
- Spend the night in the 3* Kikusui Ryokan on Shikinejima Island(or similar).
Jour 6 – Shikinejima Island / Shimoda Shimoda fishing port and Gassho-Zukuri
- After spending the morning on Shikinejima Island, you will take the 12:50 speedboat to Izu Peninsula.
- Stop off in the lovely little fishing port of Shimoda, where the US-Japan Treaty of Amity and Friendship was signed in 1854 by Commodore Perry and the Shogun’s representative, Hayashi Daigaku.
- Follow Perry Road along a charming little canal until you reach the bay. You will enjoy a wonderful view from the hill.
- Finally, take the time to discover Shimoda’s gassho-zukuri, traditional houses from Japanese Alps, which are usually only found in that region. This one was bought by a private investor who dismantled it stone by stone and rebuilt it in Shimoda.
- Lunch and dinner in your hotel.
- Spend the night in the 4* Shimoda View Hotel in Shimoda (or similar).
Jour 7 – Shuzenji Ryôsen-ji and Shuzen-ji temples, Tokko no yu spring and Kikuya onsen
- This morning, your private car with chauffeur will meet you at your hotel to take you out for a day of sightseeing in Izu Peninsula.
- Discover Ryôsen-ji temple where the US-Japan Treaty of Amity and Friendship was signed. You can see the original document on display, as well as many prints portraying the arrival of the Americans in Japan.
- You will also visit Hofuku-ji temple, which is well-worth seeing. In the heart of the peninsula, admire the beautiful Kawazu waterfall, near which you will find the famous statue of the Izu dancer. Today’s trip will end in Shuzenji, where you will spend the night.
- Founded in 807 by Kukai, the bonze who started the Shingon sect, Mount Koya and the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, Shuzen-ji temple gave its name to this lovely, peaceful village, which is famous for its hot springs.
- For an authentic bathing experience, discover Tokko no yu hot spring in the town centre. To pamper yourself a little more, relax in the baths of the historical Kikuya Ryokan , where the famous writer Natsume Sôseki used to stay. Indeed, these baths are some of the most beautiful and luxurious ones in Japan – a real treat!
- You will end this wonderful day with a delicious, gourmet meal in the ryokan.
- Lunch and dinner in your ryokan.
- Spend the night in the 4* Marukyu Ryokan in Shuzenji (or similar).
Jour 8 – Hakone Hot springs, Owakudani fumaroles and Museum of the Little Prince
- You will leave in the morning for the lovely Izu Peninsula, more specifically Hakone, south of Tokyo. This spa resort is renowned for its natural hot springs, which are due to the region’s volcanic, sulphuric gases.
- Discover the Hakone area and start with a stroll among the Owakudani fumaroles. In a lunar-like, rocky landscape, walk along the side of Kamiyama volcano from which rise clouds of sulphuric gas.
- Sample the famous Kura-Tamago, black eggs hard-boiled in boiling waters that, it is said, will add seven years to the lives of those who eat them.
- In the afternoon, discover the Museum of the Little Prince, the only museum in the world to be devoted to the book by Saint-Exupéry, where you can visit a life-size reconstruction of his French hometown, Saint Maurice de Remens!
- In the evening, spend the night in the Japanese-style in an iconic hotel: the Fujiya. You can also enjoy a relaxing bath in a natural hot spring – an onsen – and make the most of the hotel’s two swimming pools.
- Lunch and dinner at your leisure.
- Spend the night in the 3* Fujiya Hotel in Hakone (or similar).
Jour 9 – Hakone / Kyoto Boat cruise on Lake Ashi and ropeway to Mount Komagatake
- This morning, take a boat cruise on Lake Ashi , which offers amazing landscapes, including the symbol of the region – Mount Fuji –overlooking an immense bright-red torii erected in the waters of the Lake to indicate its sacred nature.
- Then, you will take the ropeway to Mount Komagatake, from which you can enjoy amazing panoramic views.
- In the afternoon, leave for Kyoto, the former capital of Japan on the famous Shinkansen bullet train.
- Lunch and dinner at your leisure
- Spend the night in the 4* New Miyako Hotel in Kyoto (or similar).
Jour 10 – Kyoto Visit temples, learn Yatsuhashi, discover the districts of Gion and Pontocho
- Spend two incredible days in the jewel of Japanese cities, just enough time to discover the wonderful historical and cultural heritage of the former capital.
- On your first day, your English-speaking guide and your private car will accompany you as you visit the most beautiful temples of Kyoto. You will discover UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the famous Kinkaku-ji better known as the Golden Pavilion, since this elegant building is entirely covered in gold leaf, as well as Ryoan-ji temple, famous for its Zen garden, which is an invitation to pause and to meditate.
- After lunch, discover Kyoto Imperial Palace, which houses wonderful gardens, including a lush forest.
- Finally, you will have the opportunity to take cooking class with your guide. Learn how to make Yatsuhashi, a dessert made using rice paste,, red bean paste and cinnamon. A real treat and a local delicacy!
- You will end this lovely excursion with your guide with a tea ceremony. Your guide will explain to you all the codes of this incredible ritual surrounding green tea.
- Finally, as night falls, walk around the narrow alleyways of Gion, Kyoto’s historical district where you will find beautiful wooden teahouses hosting extremely refined dinners. You may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of one of the Geisha who still live and work in this district.
- On the other side of the river, in a parallel street, you will find plenty of places to eat in the charming Pontocho district.
- Lunch and dinner at your leisure.
- Spend the night in the 4* New Miyako Hotel in Kyoto (or similar).
Jour 11 – Kyoto Temples and shrines, Nijo castle, Arashiyama district and the “Pomme” cafe
- With 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Kyoto still has many wonders in store for you!
- If you like temples, shrines and gardens, you are in luck: Kyoto has over 2,000 of them!
- In the town centre, we recommend Heian shrine, which has a gigantic red Torii at the entrance as well as one of the most beautiful gardens in Kyoto, and the Silver Pavilion and its lovely moss garden.
- In the outskirts of the city, visit the famous Fushimi Inari Shrine where thousands of red torii straddle a network of trails over a few kilometres in the midst of a dense forest.
- If you love beautiful traditional Japanese buildings, do not miss the incredible castle of Nijo , a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its beautiful landscape garden.
- If you like shopping, you will love the Kyoto Handicraft Centre which sells a wide range of local handicrafts: you will find prints and fans as well as high-quality kimono and yukata. Furthermore, the town centre is full of modern boutiques, especially in and around the Teramachi shopping street.
- If you like nature hikes, discover the Arashiyama district and its beautiful bamboo grove: Sagano forest.
- Not far from there, do not miss Tenryû-ji temple, one of the five big Zen temples in Kyoto. Its garden represents a dry waterfall of rocks flowing into a pond in the shape of the Chinese character “heart”.
- North of the city, stroll along the Philosopher’s Walk and enjoy a pleasant walk by a charming little canal, which is spectacular when the cherry trees are in bloom.
- Take the time to enjoy a cup of tea and taste the delicious cakes at the “Pomme” cafe , which is reminiscent of Paris of a past age.
- If you like animals, climb up Iwatayama mountain in the Arashiyama district, where hundreds of monkeys roam freely. Admire the incredible view of Kyoto!
- Lunch and dinner at your leisure.
- Spend the night in the 4* New Miyako Hotel in Kyoto (or similar).

Jour 12 - Osaka / London Back to UK
- The day of departure has arrived.
- You will be taken by bus to Kansai International Airport-Osaka to take a scheduled flight back to London .

- The visits mentioned in this program are merely suggestions. Of course, you can allocate your free time as you wish and visit other towns near Tokyo and Kyoto apart from those mentioned in the itinerary.
- Most of the lunches and dinners in this tour are at your leisure to allow you can appreciate the diversity of Japanese cuisine according to your tastes and wishes. Please note that it is very easy to find food in Japan as there are many little restaurants offering a wide variety of dishes. Furthermore, simple, filling meals are inexpensive. Bon appetit!
Climate
- Are you coming to Japan in winter?
Bring warm clothes as the winter temperatures in Tokyo are similar to those in Paris.
If you are travelling to the north of Japan in winter, to the west coast or to the Japanese Alps, bring clothes adapted to extreme temperatures since cold winds from Siberia often blow over Japan!
A real Northern experience! - Are you going to Japan in summer?
Please note that the weather will be very hot and humid! Pack your summer clothes but do not forget to bring an umbrella, especially in June and September, as well as warmer clothes for the cool evenings or for the north of Japan. Do not forget your sunglasses, hats and swimming costumes! - Are you going to Japan during the intermediary seasons: spring and autumn?
Do not hesitate to bring summer clothes (shorts, swimming costumes, T-shirts, light shoes) as well as winter clothes (umbrella, jeans, jumpers, jackets and closed shoes) as the temperatures are mild in the south of Japan but cooler in Tokyo and the north. - Are you stopping off in Asia on the way there or on the way back?
In this case, to avoid standing out in Hong Kong in your ski-suit or winter jacket, pack T-shirts, shorts and light shoes.
