Shirakawa-Go

Shirakawago is in Gifu prefecture, near the town of Takayama. This remote, mountainous region was long cut off from the rest of the world. This isolation and the harsh climate enabled a unique culture to emerge, one that cannot be found anywhere else in Japan. This village is one of the most beautiful sites in Japan with the neighbouring towns of Ainokura and Suganuma. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and therefore profits from the organisation’s support, which allows it to preserve its authenticity.
