Magome

Magome-juku is a small town in the hills of Nagano Prefecture, located in the Kiso Valley. which served travelers of the Nakasendo, a major route connecting Tokyo with Kyoto during the Edo Period.
This forest valley is surrounded by the Japan Alps.
The town has been beautifully restored with a broad stone walkway lined with carefully tended foliage.
To ensure the safety of travellers, these post-towns were built. They served as way stations where travellers could stop for food and rest, and also secured their safety at night.
