  • Arrive at Tokyo – Narita International Airport. You will be met at the airport by an English-speaking assistant who will accompany you as you take the bus to transfer to your hotel, located in the centre of Tokyo.
  • Once you have settled into the hotel and had some time to relax, head out for your first Japanese culinary experience with your English-speaking assistant. Tonight’s menu: yakitori ! These mouth-watering little skewers, cooked on the grill, are traditionally made with pieces of chicken and vegetables. But, nowadays, you can also enjoy beef, fish, seafood and pork yakitori served with a little salt and a delicious sauce made with light sake, mirin, soy sauce and sugar.
  • Lunch at your leisure and yakitori dinner.
  • Spend the night in the 4* The Prince Park Tower Hotel, located in the central district of Shiba (or similar).

  • This morning, you will get to know the most popular mode of transport in Tokyo: the metro, which is well worth a visit in itself as it is the most modern and best organised underground in the world! With a French-speaking guide, you will go to Tsukiji station to visit the largest fish market in the world: Tsukiji Market! Here, every day, hundreds of different kinds of fish are sold to restaurant owners and shopkeepers, on the lookout for the best possible pieces! The freshest fish available!
  • A short distance away, you will visit the very modern district of Ginza, famous for its contemporary buildings that house some of the biggest fashion brands.
  • In this district, you will have a Teppanyakilunch. Teppanyaki is a kind of Japanese cuisine where customers are provided with a griddle on which they cook their own meal! The ingredients used for Teppanyaki are beef, shrimp, scallops, chicken and various vegetables.
  • You will then have the incredible opportunity to take part in a tea ceremony, an authentic Japanese ritual, where powdered green tea or "matcha", is prepared by an experienced master as a ceremony and is served to a small group of people in a tranquil, refined setting.
  • Finally, you will see a bird’s-eye view of Tokyo, as you go all the way to the observatory on the top of Tokyo Tower, which offers an amazing panoramic view of the city. In the evening, you will go to a sushi restaurant to take a Japanese cooking class and learn to make the most popular Japanese dish in the west. You will then have the pleasure of enjoying your – undoubtedly – delicious sushi!

  • During this day trip, you will discover the small town of Kamakura with your French-speaking guide.
  • A one-hour train ride from Tokyo, Kamakura is a former Japanese capital that houses amazing temples dating back to its grand old days! You will start by visiting Hase Kannon temple which boasts an amazing view of Kamakura Bay as well as a beautiful garden.
  • Then, you will go and see the jewel of Kamakura: the Great Buddha sitting in the lotus position. You will end this walking tour with Tsurugaoka Hachiman shrine.
    In the meantime, you will have enjoyed a tempura lunch. These delicious fried deep-fried strips of vegetables or seafood just melt in your mouth.
  • We will then take the train to Shin-Yokohama station, where we will visit the Ramen Museum and enjoy these thick noodles served in a bowl of broth for dinner.
  • Tempura lunch in Kamakura and Ramen dinner in Shin-Yokohama.
  • Spend the night in the 4* The Prince Park Tower Hotel (or similar).

  • This morning, you will take a taxi to Hinode to board a cruise on the Sumida River. This original trip through Tokyo will take you all the way to the working-class district of Asakusa. You will visit Senso-ji Temple, the most popular temple in the capital, lined with small colourful shops selling all sorts of typical Japanese items.
  • You will then walk around the Kappa-bashi district where you will find many shops selling kitchen utensils! Take note, fellow enthusiasts!
  • For lunch, you will enjoy Kushiage : little skewers of battered, deep-fried meat, fish or vegetables.
  • You will then take a taxi to the shopping streets of Yanaka, a small traditional district that survived the 1923 earthquake as well as the bombings during World War Two and still boasts many wooden houses, alongside temples and shrines. Finally, you will stroll along Ame-yoko market street in Ueno, one of the most picturesque, authentic and colourful streets in Tokyo.
    This evening, you will enjoy a Shabu-Shabudinner. This famous Japanese hot pot uses boiling broth instead of oil to cook all sorts of ingredients: beef, pork or vegetables.

Day 6 – Tokyo Free day-out in Tokyo or in the small town of Nikko

  • You can choose between a free day out to visit Tokyo by your own means or an excursion to the small town of Nikko, with an English-speaking guide (extra cost of 115 Euros (about 95 GBP) per person including transport, lunch and visits).
  • The small town of Nikko is north of Tokyo and was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its rich heritage. You will be able to visit the most ornate temples in Japan set in the heart of a forest of giant Japanese cedars. A wonderful visit in an exceptional natural setting! Apart from the various temples and shrines, you will also see Kegon Falls, one of the most impressive waterfalls in Japan.
  • If you stay in Tokyo, it still has many wonders in store for you!
  • If you are interested in some lovely nature walks, start with Ueno Park, which is very popular with Japanese people and houses many museums. Yoyogi Park, which houses Meiji-jingu shrine, is also a haven of peace in the city and well worth a visit. Finally, do not miss the Imperial Palace Gardens, where you can enjoy a pleasant stroll.
  • If you like shopping, do not miss Omotesando district, Tokyo’s Champs-Elysees, where you will find all sorts of different brands, as well as Shinjuku, in the eastern part of the city, which houses many shops and shopping centres.
  • If you want to catch a glimpse of crazy, bustling Tokyo, visit the “youth” districts of Harajuku and Shibuya, which are incredibly alive until early evening. You can also stroll around the electric town of Akihabara, which sells state-of-the-art electronics.
  • Finally, we recommend having dinner in the district of Odaiba in a restaurant overlooking Tokyo Bay.
    Optional: Have dinner in a Michelin-starred restaurant, where you will be served a Teppanyaki meal. The transfers there and back and the presence of an English-speaking guide are included.
  • Have lunch in Nikko and dinner at your leisure for the excursion to Nikko (or choose the optional Michelin Guide dinner).

      Bring warm clothes as the winter temperatures in Tokyo are similar to those in Paris.
      If you are travelling to the north of Japan in winter, to the west coast or to the Japanese Alps, bring clothes adapted to extreme temperatures since cold winds from Siberia often blow over Japan!

    • Are you going to Japan in summer?
      Please note that the weather will be very hot and humid! Pack your summer clothes but do not forget to bring an umbrella, especially in June and September, as well as warmer clothes for the cool evenings or for the north of Japan. Do not forget your sunglasses, hats and swimming costumes!
    • Are you going to Japan during the intermediary seasons: spring and autumn?
      Do not hesitate to bring summer clothes (shorts, swimming costumes, T-shirts, light shoes) as well as winter clothes (umbrella, jeans, jumpers, jackets and closed shoes) as the temperatures are mild in the south of Japan but cooler in Tokyo and the north.
    • Are you stopping off in Asia on the way there or on the way back?
      In this case, to avoid standing out in Hong Kong in your ski-suit or winter jacket, pack T-shirts, shorts and light shoes.
