Yufuin

Yufuin is famous for its hot springs that make it the third spa resort town in Japan. Every year, millions of visitors come to relax in this natural setting. Famous in the archipelago but rarely visited by foreign tourists, the town is well worth spending a few days in. It also houses a lovely little museum, which offers many retrospectives and displays paintings by a local artist. The town is also a great base for trips in the area, such as a visit to Mount Yufu, also known as “Bungo Fuji” for its view of the surrounding valleys. The town of Yufuin also houses many onsen, and most of its ryokan offer various rotenburo baths. Surrounded by mountains and a dense forest, the setting is idyllic.
