Uji

Uji is famous in Japan for many reasons, including Byōdō-in temple and Ujibashi bridge. This bridge, which crosses the river, was built by Dōchō in 647 and then rebuilt in the 9th century. Many battles took place there at the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th century (see Battle of Uji). Uji is also renowned for its green tea.
