Taipei is located on the northern point of the island, on Danshui River, about 25 km (about 15 miles) southwest of Keelung, its port on the Pacific Ocean, and 20 km (about 12 miles) northwest of the coastal town of Danshui, located at the mouth of the river of the same name, in the Taiwan Strait.
