Shimoda is a Japanese town and port located in the southernmost part of Izu Peninsula, in Shizuoka Prefecture. Shimoda is famous for being one of the three ports open to foreigners by the Kanagawa Convention, signed in 1854 under the aegis of Commodore Matthew Perry.
