The highest peak in Japan, Mount Fuji is a perfectly symmetrical volcanic cone. This national symbol was immortalised, among others, by the “36 Views of Mount Fuji”, a series of prints by Hokusai. At its foot, a region of lakes, plateaux, waterfalls and caves offers beautiful natural landscapes. Close to Tokyo, the region of the Five Lakes is a popular holiday destination. Furthermore, many Japanese people dream of climbing Mount Fuji (Fuji-san in Japanese), ideally to see the sunrise from the top of the mountain. However, Mount Fuji is only "open" from the 1st of July to the 28th of August.
