Kiso Valley is located in Nagano Prefecture (famous for hosting the Winter Olympics) in the centre of the main island of Honshu. It is mostly known for the two villages of Tsumago and Magome, which have kept their typical Edo style. They are carefully protected from the changes of modernisation as it is for example forbidden to rent or sell properties or to build new ones.
