Kakunodate

Famous for its cherry blossoms and its well-preserved samurai houses, the town of Kakunodate was founded in the 6th year of the Genwa Period (1620) by the lord Yoshikatsu Ashina. Indeed, it was ideally located for a feudal town as it is surrounded by mountains and is only connected to the Senboku plains by the Tamagawa River in the south.
